Williams Racing has confirmed its driver line-up for the 2027 Formula 1® season, securing Carlos Sainz on a multi-year contract extension. This announcement confirms Sainz will continue with the team into his third season, alongside Alexander Albon, who has also extended his contract for the upcoming year.

The decision comes amid a challenging 2026 campaign for Williams, which currently sits ninth in the constructors’ standings after 11 rounds with 11 points. Despite the difficulties faced this season, including issues with an overweight car and a focus on weight reduction over aerodynamic development, Williams has chosen to maintain stability in its driver roster as it continues its rebuilding process.

Carlos Sainz joined Williams from Ferrari, where he achieved four Grand Prix victories. His commitment to the team is seen as a key factor in Williams’ ongoing development. Alexander Albon, now entering his sixth season with the Grove-based outfit, also remains part of the team’s plans for 2027.

Williams is preparing to celebrate its 50th season in Formula 1® in 2027, a milestone that highlights the team’s rich history, including nine constructors’ championships, seven drivers’ titles, and 114 Grand Prix wins. Team principal James Vowles praised Sainz’s talent, leadership, and dedication, both on and off the track, emphasizing his important role in the team’s efforts to rebuild and improve.

Vowles also described the driver pairing of Sainz and Albon as one of the strongest on the grid, underscoring the team’s confidence in their experience and capabilities. While the 2026 season has been tough, the continuity in the driver line-up suggests Williams is focused on long-term progress rather than short-term fixes.

Speculation about Sainz’s future had circulated during the season, but with limited options beyond other midfield teams, his decision to stay with Williams reflects a commitment to the team’s project. As the team looks ahead to its landmark 50th year in the sport, maintaining a stable and experienced driver line-up appears to be a strategic choice.

Williams’ 2027 driver confirmation signals a steady approach amid ongoing challenges, with Sainz and Albon expected to play central roles in the team’s development. The focus remains on addressing current technical issues and building towards a more competitive future within the Formula 1® championship.
