Max Verstappen has highlighted a persistent issue with Red Bull Racing’s race starts, despite securing victory in the Singapore Grand Prix sprint race. While the team’s car has shown strong pace and competitiveness at the Marina Bay Street Circuit, Verstappen stressed that poor launches remain a significant obstacle to maximizing race day results.

Following his sprint race win, Verstappen downplayed the emotional value of such victories, focusing instead on the main event. He pointed out that although Red Bull’s car performed well in qualifying and the sprint, the start remains a weak point. Verstappen described the problem as the car lacking proper acceleration off the line, which has allowed rivals, including Mercedes driver George Russell, to overtake him at the start in recent races such as Malaysia and Singapore.

Verstappen acknowledged that the team faces limitations contributing to this issue and noted that even AlphaTauri, Red Bull’s sister team, sometimes manages better starts. He emphasized the importance of improving race starts, as a poor launch can severely compromise the outcome unless unusual circumstances intervene during the race.

Describing the sprint race as relatively calm but demanding focus due to track conditions and limited overtaking opportunities, Verstappen said he avoided unnecessary risks. The Marina Bay Street Circuit’s nature makes passing difficult, so maintaining position at the start is crucial.

Looking ahead, Verstappen’s priority remains on improving qualifying performance and, importantly, the race start for the main Grand Prix event. The issue with slow launches has been a recurring theme for Red Bull, and addressing it is seen as essential to fully capitalizing on the car’s competitive potential.

This situation underlines how even strong race pace and car performance can be undermined by difficulties in the opening moments of a race. Verstappen’s comments provide a clear signal that Red Bull is aware of the problem and that progress on this front is necessary to enhance their race day outcomes.
