Max Verstappen secured his first pole position at the Singapore Grand Prix after a closely contested qualifying session at the Marina Bay Street Circuit. The Red Bull Racing driver edged out Charles Leclerc by just 0.054 seconds to claim the top spot on the grid.

Verstappen set a lap time of 1:31.373, marking a significant milestone in his career at this challenging street circuit. Leclerc, driving for Ferrari, qualified second, while Lewis Hamilton, also with Ferrari, took third place but was unable to improve on his final lap. Completing the top five were Kimi Antonelli in a Mercedes and Lando Norris for McLaren.

The qualifying session took place on October 10, 2026, under humid conditions following earlier rain, which added complexity for the drivers as they battled track limits and mechanical challenges. George Russell qualified sixth but is set to face a grid penalty, pushing Oscar Piastri to seventh. The rest of the top ten included Pierre Gasly, Liam Lawson, and Arvid Lindblad.

Several notable drivers, including Fernando Alonso and Isack Hadjar, did not advance beyond the early qualifying stages. Hadjar faced ongoing reliability issues and was unable to set a representative lap time. Verstappen expressed satisfaction with his pole position, highlighting the tight margins throughout qualifying and the strong performance of his car.

The session underscored the competitive nature of the field, with teams such as Red Bull Racing, Ferrari, Mercedes, McLaren, Racing Bulls, Haas, Williams, Alpine, Aston Martin, Cadillac, and Audi all represented among the drivers pushing for top positions. The close gap between Verstappen and Leclerc reflects the intense battle for grid advantage on a circuit known for its demanding layout and unique challenges.

Lewis Hamilton’s third place showed Ferrari’s continued presence near the front, although he was unable to improve on his final lap. Kimi Antonelli’s fourth place for Mercedes and Lando Norris’s fifth for McLaren rounded out a strong qualifying performance from multiple teams. Meanwhile, George Russell’s grid penalty will affect the starting order, shifting the dynamics for the race.

This qualifying session at Singapore highlighted the fine margins that define success on the Marina Bay Street Circuit. Verstappen’s achievement of his first pole here adds another chapter to his career, while the close competition from Leclerc and others promises an intriguing race ahead.
