Max Verstappen secured a notable achievement at the 2026 Singapore Grand Prix weekend by winning the Sprint race and taking pole position in Qualifying. This marked his first victory in Singapore and his 50th career pole, underscoring his continued strong form at the Marina Bay Street Circuit.

The Sprint and Qualifying sessions on October 10, 2026, brought a mix of performances and challenges across the grid. Isack Hadjar faced significant setbacks, retiring early in the Sprint due to a power unit issue and failing to set a qualifying time because of gearbox problems, which meant he would start from the back of the grid. Ferrari drivers Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc showed competitive pace, finishing second and third in the Sprint and qualifying third and second respectively, though they encountered difficulties with tyre management and car balance.

George Russell initially led the Sprint but crashed on the first lap. Despite this, his Mercedes car was rebuilt for Qualifying, where he finished sixth; however, a grid penalty will see him start from the back. His teammate Kimi Antonelli impressed by securing fourth place in both the Sprint and Qualifying, reflecting progress with a new update package. McLaren’s weekend was disrupted by a collision between Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri on the final lap of the Sprint, forcing Piastri to retire. Both cars were repaired in time for Qualifying, where they finished fifth and seventh.

Pirelli Motorsport Director highlighted the challenging mixed wet-dry conditions during the Sprint, noting that intermediate tyres performed well with low degradation. For the race start, Soft tyres (C5) are favoured. Teams have stressed the importance of a strong start and the opening stint, given the difficulty of overtaking on the Marina Bay Street Circuit.

The sessions provided a clear picture of the teams’ current form and challenges ahead of the main race. Verstappen’s performance stood out, while others faced reliability and balance issues. The feedback from drivers and teams after Sprint and Qualifying underlined the technical and strategic demands of Singapore, setting the stage for the race day.
