Norris reflects on McLaren commitment

FansBRANDS® Team |

Lando Norris has reaffirmed his strong commitment to McLaren, emphasizing that he sees the team as his long-term home in Formula 1®. Speaking ahead of the 2026 British Grand Prix at Silverstone, Norris reflected on his journey with McLaren and addressed whether he envisions himself as a one-team driver.

Norris has been part of McLaren’s Formula 1® programme since 2017, initially joining their Young Driver Programme before making his race debut with the team in 2019. Over the years, he has become a central figure for McLaren, achieving 11 race wins, 16 pole positions, and 46 podium finishes across 159 Grand Prix starts. Notably, he secured his first World Championship title in 2025 and contributed to McLaren’s Teams’ Championship victories in both 2024 and 2025. Currently, Norris holds a multi-year contract with McLaren and has expressed a desire to remain with the team indefinitely.

In a recent interview on the Beyond The Grid podcast, Norris described McLaren as more than just a team, calling it his family. He highlighted that his loyalty stems from enjoying his time with the squad, even during phases without race wins. While he acknowledged that he might consider racing for one other Formula 1® team in the very distant future, he stressed that McLaren is the only place he is truly interested in at this stage of his career.

Despite his championship success, Norris remains motivated to achieve more on track. As of mid-2026, he sits fifth in the driver standings, just one point behind his McLaren teammate Oscar Piastri. The team has faced some reliability challenges this season, which have affected their overall performance. Nevertheless, Norris’s focus remains on pushing forward with McLaren rather than exploring opportunities elsewhere.

Norris’s comments also provide insight into the dynamic within McLaren’s driver lineup. With Piastri closely matching his points tally, the internal competition is tight, but Norris’s commitment to the team appears unwavering. His perspective underlines the value he places on stability and a positive working environment, rather than frequent moves between teams.

Overall, Norris’s reflections highlight a driver who prioritizes loyalty and enjoyment in his Formula 1® career. His long-standing relationship with McLaren, from the junior programme to world champion, shapes his outlook on the sport and his future. This stance offers a clear picture of a driver focused on building his legacy within a single team, while remaining open to possibilities only in the very long term.
