Lando Norris has committed his future to McLaren by signing a contract extension that will keep him with the team until at least the end of 2030. This new agreement, effective immediately, secures Norris’s place in the paddock for several more years, reflecting a long-term partnership between the driver and the iconic British outfit.
Norris’s journey with McLaren began in 2017 when he joined as a test and development driver, before stepping up to a race seat in 2019. Over the course of 163 Grands Prix, he has become the driver with the most starts in McLaren’s history. His achievements include 13 Grand Prix wins, 18 pole positions, 48 podiums, and notably, his first World Championship title in 2025. Prior to this extension, his contract was set to expire at the end of 2027.
McLaren’s CEO Zak Brown praised Norris’s growth and impact on the team, highlighting his role in McLaren’s recent successes, which include back-to-back constructors’ titles in 2024 and 2025, as well as Norris’s Drivers’ Championship in 2025. Team Principal Andrea Stella also emphasized Norris’s exceptional talent and maturity, noting his importance to the team’s cohesion and ongoing performance.
As part of the contract extension, McLaren will present Norris with the MCL39 car he drove during his championship-winning 2025 season, a gesture that underlines the significance of his achievements with the team. Norris expressed pride in his long-term commitment and a clear ambition to continue competing and winning with McLaren in the years ahead.
By the time his contract concludes in 2030, Norris will have spent 12 years with McLaren, equalling the tenure of Lewis Hamilton at Mercedes. This stability is further supported by Norris’s teammate Oscar Piastri, who is contracted with McLaren until the end of 2028, providing the team with a solid driver lineup for the foreseeable future.
The timing of Norris’s extension aligns with Max Verstappen’s recent contract renewal with Red Bull Racing, also running through to the end of 2030. This parallel highlights a trend among top drivers securing long-term commitments with their teams in the current Formula 1® landscape.
