Mercedes has unveiled a special livery for their W17 car to mark the Bahrain Grand Prix, which will take place at the Sepang International Circuit in Malaysia. This unique design features green shades alongside the team’s traditional black, paying tribute to their long-standing title partner PETRONAS. The event also celebrates Formula 1®’s return to Sepang, a venue that last hosted a Grand Prix in 2017.

The new livery was revealed ahead of the Bahrain Grand Prix, which is scheduled to be held in Malaysia as part of the 2026 Formula 1® season. Mercedes-AMG Petronas Formula 1® Team’s special design highlights the collaboration between Malaysia and Bahrain in bringing the race back to Sepang. The green elements in the livery specifically honour PETRONAS, reflecting the significance of their partnership with the team.

Mercedes Team Principal Toto Wolff commented on the occasion, emphasizing the importance of the event and the partnership with PETRONAS. He described Sepang as a challenging circuit that demands strong performance in high-speed corners, effective traction, tyre management, and consistency in hot conditions. Wolff also acknowledged the joint efforts of Malaysia and Bahrain in making the Grand Prix possible, underlining the event’s broader significance for the sport.

Alongside the livery reveal, Mercedes is set to bring an update package to the Malaysia event. While specific technical details have not been disclosed, the team aims to enhance their car’s performance and maintain competitiveness at the front of the field. The update package forms part of Mercedes’ ongoing efforts to adapt to the demands of the 2026 regulations and optimise performance across different circuits.

The return of Formula 1® to the Sepang International Circuit marks a notable moment for the championship, reconnecting with a track known for its demanding layout and tropical climate. Mercedes’ preparation for this race weekend reflects the challenges posed by Sepang’s combination of high-speed corners and heat, factors that require careful balance and strategic approach from teams and drivers alike.

This special livery and the accompanying technical updates highlight Mercedes’ commitment to both their partnership with PETRONAS and their competitive ambitions as the season progresses. The Bahrain Grand Prix in Malaysia will provide an opportunity to see how these elements come together on a circuit that has been absent from the calendar for several years.
