Lando Norris has committed his future to McLaren by signing a new contract that extends his stay with the team until the end of 2030. This agreement marks a significant milestone in Norris’s career, as it will see him spend 12 years with McLaren, equalling Lewis Hamilton’s record tenure at Mercedes.
Norris’s journey with McLaren began as a test and development driver, progressing to reserve before earning his race seat in 2019. Over the years, he has achieved several key milestones with the team, including his first podium in Austria 2020, first pole position in Russia 2021, and his maiden win in Miami 2024. He also secured victories at Monaco and Silverstone in 2025, the same year he claimed his first World Championship title—McLaren’s first drivers’ championship since 2008.
Despite a challenging start to the 2026 season, McLaren has shown signs of recovery through upgrades that have contributed to Norris’s recent wins and pole positions. Currently, Norris trails championship leader Kimi Antonelli by 83 points but remains confident in his and the team’s ability to defend the title.
Norris has emphasized that his decision to stay with McLaren is driven by a desire for stability and happiness rather than the pursuit of opportunities with other teams. He values the environment at McLaren, highlighting the leadership of CEO Zak Brown and Team Principal Andrea Stella as important factors in his commitment. Norris expressed that having a long-term contract allows him to focus fully on racing without the distractions of contract speculation, which benefits both himself and the team.
By the end of his current contract, Norris will hold the record for the most starts with McLaren. He has also expressed a wish to remain with the team “maybe even forever,” underscoring his strong connection to the team that has supported his growth from a junior driver to a world champion.
