Lando Norris has committed his future to McLaren by extending his contract with the team until at least 2030. The reigning Formula 1® World Champion announced the deal personally to the staff at McLaren’s Woking factory during the team’s annual family and friends open day, marking a significant milestone in his career and the team’s long-term plans.
Norris, who joined McLaren’s junior programme in 2017 and has raced exclusively for the team since 2019, has been a central figure in McLaren’s recent success. Over his time with the team, he has secured 13 Grand Prix victories, 18 pole positions, and 48 podium finishes. His previous contract was set to run until the end of 2027, and this extension adds at least four more years to his tenure, with options for further continuation.
McLaren’s team principal Andrea Stella highlighted Norris’s qualities, praising his speed, maturity, consistency, and dedication. Stella noted that Norris has played a key role in the team’s achievements, including back-to-back constructors’ championships in 2024 and 2025. Zak Brown, McLaren’s CEO, also emphasized Norris’s development as a crucial factor in the team’s rise, particularly pointing to the drivers’ championship Norris won in 2025.
In the 2026 season, Norris has continued to demonstrate strong form, winning the last two Grands Prix in Hungary and the Netherlands. These victories were supported by upgrades to McLaren’s car, which have contributed to the team’s competitive edge. As part of the contract extension announcement, Norris was presented with his 2025 championship-winning car, the MCL39, symbolizing his achievements with McLaren.
Alongside Norris, McLaren’s driver lineup includes Oscar Piastri, who remains under contract until the end of 2028. This pairing reflects McLaren’s commitment to building a stable and competitive driver roster for the coming years.
