Jamie Chadwick recently completed her first test in a Williams Formula 1® car at the Autódromo Internacional do Algarve in Portimão. This milestone made her the first woman in over ten years to drive a Williams F1® car, marking a significant moment in the team's history and Chadwick’s ongoing involvement with the sport.
During the test, Chadwick completed 32 laps in the Williams FW47, gaining valuable experience behind the wheel of a current Formula 1® car. She is the second woman to test for Williams, following Susie Wolff, who took part in a test back in 2015. Chadwick’s session was part of a comprehensive preparation programme that included gym training, simulator work, and seat fitting to ensure she was ready for the demands of the car and track.
The test took place ahead of the 2027 Portuguese Grand Prix, which is set to return to the Formula 1® calendar. Williams Racing used the opportunity to collect data and feedback on the FW47 and the Portimão circuit, supporting their preparations for the upcoming race weekend.
Jamie Chadwick has been associated with Williams since 2019, serving as a Team Ambassador and adviser for the F1 ACADEMY. Her role extends beyond testing, contributing to the development of female talent in motorsport. Williams Team Principal James Vowles acknowledged Chadwick’s performance during the test and highlighted her importance as a role model for women in the sport.
Chadwick described the experience as phenomenal, calling it the best day of her life so far. The team plans to share insights and footage from her test with fans through their official channels and Sky F1’s social media during the 2026 Azerbaijan Grand Prix weekend, offering a closer look at her progress and involvement.
This test represents a continued effort by Williams to engage with emerging talent and support diversity within the racing world. While Chadwick’s role remains ambassadorial and advisory, her time in the FW47 provided valuable exposure to the demands of Formula 1® machinery and the Portimão circuit ahead of its return to the championship.
