Lewis Hamilton has retained his third-place finish at the Formula 1® British Grand Prix despite receiving a reprimand from the FIA stewards for a yellow-flag infringement during the race at Silverstone.
The investigation focused on Hamilton’s actions as he passed Nico Hulkenberg’s stranded Audi under yellow-flag conditions. Video evidence showed that Hamilton entered the sector before the yellow flag was displayed and only received the warning on his steering wheel near the end of the sector. At the time, he was engaged in a close battle with Max Verstappen, which the stewards took into account when assessing the incident.
Although Hamilton did not reduce his speed after the yellow flag appeared, the stewards acknowledged that his reaction time was very limited due to the timing of the flag and his focus on the wheel-to-wheel fight. As a result, he was reprimanded but avoided a time penalty, allowing him to keep his podium position behind race winner Charles Leclerc and second-placed George Russell.
The race itself concluded under safety car conditions following Verstappen’s late crash at Stowe corner, which influenced the final track order. Meanwhile, championship leader Kimi Antonelli retired late in the race, which benefited both Leclerc and Russell in the standings for that event.
Hamilton had initially expected to lose his podium finish due to the yellow-flag infringement, but the stewards’ decision reflected the circumstances of the incident, particularly the timing of the flag and Hamilton’s limited opportunity to respond. The reprimand serves as a formal warning without affecting his race result.
