Haas tests new drivers at Fuji fan event

FansBRANDS® Team |

Haas F1 Team recently held a special test event at Japan’s Fuji Speedway, offering fans a rare opportunity to see Formula 1® cars in action outside of a race weekend. The test featured two drivers supported by Toyota, highlighting the growing collaboration between Haas and the Japanese manufacturer.

The sessions took place over two days, Tuesday and Wednesday of this week in July 2026, just before Haas’s summer break. Sho Tsuboi, a four-time Super GT GT500 champion and the 2024 Super Formula champion, returned for his second outing in a Formula 1® car with Haas. Meanwhile, Nirei Fukuzumi, the 2019 Super GT GT300 champion and a current Super Formula competitor, made his Formula 1® car debut during the event.

Fans were able to watch the test from the grandstands at Fuji Speedway, a circuit formerly part of the Formula 1® calendar and currently owned by Toyota. The event also included fan engagement activities, such as the chance to sign a Haas front wing, creating a more interactive experience. Weather conditions varied throughout the two days, with periods requiring wet tyres as well as dry running under clear skies.

The test followed a similar successful session held at the same venue last year, known as the Testing of Previous Cars (TPC) programme. This continuity underlines Haas’s commitment to engaging with fans and providing valuable track time for drivers linked to their Toyota partnership. The team’s travelling crew and team boss Ayao Komatsu were present throughout the event, with Komatsu taking time to meet fans in person.

While no detailed technical or performance data from the test has been released, the event served as a platform for Sho Tsuboi to gain further experience in Formula 1® machinery and for Nirei Fukuzumi to take his first steps in the category. The collaboration between Haas and Toyota continues to develop, with these tests offering insight into how the team is exploring driver options and strengthening ties with Japanese motorsport.

Overall, the Fuji test was a fan-focused occasion that combined on-track action with opportunities for interaction, set against the backdrop of a historic circuit. It provided a useful bridge for Haas before their summer break and showcased the potential of Toyota-backed drivers stepping closer to Formula 1® competition.

The event highlighted Haas’s ongoing efforts to connect with fans and nurture emerging talent within the sport’s wider ecosystem, particularly through its partnership with Toyota and Japanese racing stars.
