Ferrari Team Principal Frederic Vasseur has called for calm and focus within the team following Lewis Hamilton’s unexpected victory at the 2026 Spanish Grand Prix in Barcelona. Despite the win ending Mercedes’ winning streak this season and sparking talk of a championship challenge, Vasseur urges Ferrari to maintain a steady approach rather than get caught up in hype.
Hamilton secured his breakthrough win for Ferrari using an aggressive three-stop strategy and benefitted from a late Virtual Safety Car. This result reduced Kimi Antonelli’s championship lead from 66 to 41 points, aided by Antonelli’s retirement from the race. Ferrari showed progress in Barcelona, competing strongly for pole position and race pace, but the outcome did not fundamentally change the dynamics of the season so far.
Vasseur emphasized that the situation remains consistent with previous races such as Monaco and Canada, where Ferrari also showed promise but did not let external factors distract them. He highlighted the importance of staying calm and focusing on continuous development throughout the year, rather than reacting to individual race results or championship speculation.
According to Vasseur, the title fight this season will be determined by how well teams can develop their cars over time rather than by a single race’s outcome. While Ferrari’s performance in Barcelona was encouraging, he insists on a detail-focused approach to maintain progress. This mindset aims to keep the team grounded amid the excitement generated by Hamilton’s win.
Vasseur also refrained from commenting on whether Ferrari will fully support Hamilton’s pursuit of an eighth Drivers’ title, preferring to concentrate on consistent performance race by race. This measured stance reflects a broader strategy to avoid distractions and maintain focus on the technical and sporting challenges ahead.
As the season unfolds, Ferrari’s priority remains steady development and avoiding premature conclusions based on isolated results. Vasseur’s message underlines the importance of patience and discipline in a highly competitive Formula 1® environment, where sustained progress often outweighs momentary success.
