At Spa-Francorchamps on July 19, 2026, Bortoleto matched his previous top-ten finish at Silverstone but this time managed to finish ahead of all midfield competitors. His progression into Q3 and a top-ten starting position was a clear sign of the car’s potential, especially considering the known limitations of Audi’s power unit compared to some rivals.
The race strategy played a crucial role in securing points for Audi. A well-timed pit stop during a Virtual Safety Car period allowed Bortoleto to gain positions and maintain a solid track position throughout the race. Although he lost some places at the start, his composed driving and consistent defence against midfield challengers like Liam Lawson, Franco Colapinto, and Arvid Lindblad helped him hold onto eighth place.
Audi Racing Director Allan McNish praised Bortoleto’s “cool and clean” performance, underscoring the importance of both driver composure and strategic execution in achieving this result. McNish also noted that the team’s upgrade package introduced in Austria contributed to improved performance, although the power unit remains a limiting factor.
Looking ahead, Audi is cautiously optimistic about maintaining their midfield competitiveness, particularly at circuits like the Hungarian Grand Prix where power unit performance is less critical. The team aims to continue challenging teams such as Racing Bulls and Alpine, focusing on flawless execution in qualifying and races to maximise their opportunities.
