BP has tested hundreds of fuel blends and components to tailor the Advanced Sustainable Fuels specifically for Audi’s new power unit. These fuels are produced from sources such as carbon capture, municipal waste, and non-food biomass, designed as “drop-in” replacements that do not require engine modifications.
The technical challenge of developing these fuels is considerable. Since traditional fossil-based components are absent, the development process had to start from scratch, requiring extensive testing and optimization to meet the demands of Formula 1® power units.
