Aston Martin Racing has confirmed that both Fernando Alonso and Lance Stroll will continue as their drivers for the 2027 Formula 1® season. This announcement ends months of speculation regarding Alonso’s future in the sport, as his previous contract was due to expire at the end of 2026.

Fernando Alonso, a two-time world champion with 32 career race wins, joined Aston Martin in 2023 after leaving Alpine. Despite expressing concerns about the 2026 regulations, which place a greater emphasis on electric power, Alonso has committed to a new long-term deal with the team. Lance Stroll has also extended his contract, marking his ninth season with Aston Martin following his move from Williams.

Currently, Aston Martin is facing a challenging 2026 season, sitting 10th in the standings with only three points scored by Alonso. The team’s struggles have been partly attributed to an uncompetitive Honda power unit. Nevertheless, both drivers have expressed confidence in the team’s direction and potential for improvement.

Alonso’s decision to stay reflects his belief in the team’s leadership and long-term prospects, despite the challenges posed by the new technical regulations. Meanwhile, Stroll’s continued presence adds consistency to the driver lineup as Aston Martin aims to build on its progress.

While the 2026 season has been tough for Aston Martin, the confirmation of Alonso and Stroll for 2027 provides clarity on the team’s driver plans moving forward. The focus remains on addressing performance issues and striving for better results in the coming seasons.
