Kimi Antonelli produced a remarkable performance at the 2026 Italian Grand Prix, winning the race despite starting from 19th on the grid. This impressive drive marked his first home victory and extended his lead in the championship standings. Meanwhile, Ferrari faced a challenging weekend at Monza, with Charles Leclerc crashing out early and Lewis Hamilton finishing sixth after a tough race.

Antonelli’s grid position was heavily affected by a 30-place penalty for power unit changes, but he steadily climbed through the field. His overtaking of teammate George Russell mid-race was a key moment, allowing him to maintain the lead until the finish. Mercedes team principal Toto Wolff praised Antonelli’s determination, saying that “nothing would have stopped him.” As a result, Antonelli now leads the championship by 66 points over Russell, moving closer to a three-win advantage.

Alpine’s Pierre Gasly surprised many by securing his first Formula 1® pole position of the season, though he eventually finished seventh after leading in the early stages. His teammate Franco Colapinto contributed points with a ninth-place finish, helping Alpine reduce the gap to Racing Bulls in the teams’ standings.
