Kimi Antonelli came agonisingly close to securing pole position in the Sprint Qualifying session at the 2026 British Grand Prix, missing out by just 0.011 seconds to Lewis Hamilton. The narrow margin highlighted both the impressive progress made by Ferrari and Hamilton’s continued strong form in the championship.
Antonelli currently leads the Drivers’ Championship by 46 points over Hamilton and holds a 40-point advantage over his Mercedes teammate George Russell. Despite starting the Sprint Qualifying session in seventh place after a challenging first segment, Antonelli was able to improve his performance following a car balance adjustment for the subsequent rounds.
Hamilton demonstrated consistent pace throughout the weekend, setting the fastest times in Free Practice and all three Sprint Qualifying segments. His recent form includes a victory in Barcelona and three podium finishes, underscoring his competitiveness in the current season.
